Installing a Basic Shower Cubicle

Installing a shower cubicle is a relatively easy task, but it will help if you have some do it yourself experience (including basic carpentry, plumbing and possibly tiling). It will also help if you can get a friend to give you a hand. There will be times when a second set of hands can be vital to your project.

*BEFORE YOU BEGIN*

Turn off the water source that comes into the room where you will be working. Be prepared to have it off for a couple of days (if you are able to set aside two full days for the project) and up to a month (if you have to put in the time as you find the time).

  1. The first thing you will need to do is clear the space where you will be working. This means removing old fixtures, taking down old wall board and cleaning the area.
  2. You will need to install water barrier wall board in the room (all around the room is the best option, but at least in the area where the shower cubicle will be installed).
  3. Set the tray in the space marked off for the shower cubicle. Level it off before securing it to the wall.
  4. Install the shower panels.
  5. Attach the shower enclosure.
  6. Connect the plumbing to the taps and to the drain.

Most shower cubicles will include detailed instructions for installation. If you have any doubts about the process then you will need to talk with a professional. When it comes to water in your home, it is always better to be safe now than to be sorry later.
